Autograph letter signed, dated : [London], 17 December 1901, to Mr. [Sydney Carlyle] Cockerell, 1901 Dec. 17.

Saying that he is "very sorry that it should so happen about the Viola da Gamba this time," explaining that "it is impossible to have something for all the instruments each time without absolutely destroying the main idea of my concerts, which is to make known beautiful things in music without any regard for persons or things!," and inviting him to visit some evening "and spend an hour or two with the instruments and the players in their own home."
